This morning, I was rudely reminded of a Springsteen song.

You may have heard it. It goes something like this:

Woke up this morning my house was cold (I could have ended the quote here because that's what happened)

Checked out the furnace she wasn't burnin'

Went out and hopped in my old Ford

Hit the engine but she ain't turnin'

We've given each other some hard lessons lately

But we ain't learnin'

We're the same sad story, that's a fact

One step up and two steps back

Yep. House is freezing cold. Apparently, at some point last night, in 14 degree weather, the furnace just gave up.

Funny thing is, I woke up sweating. My first thought was the furnace overheated. But when I went downstairs and looked at the thermostat, it was clear: It hadn't been on for a few hours, at least.

So out to the garage I go. Circuit breakers: Check. Nothing tripped.

Outside (it's really fucking cold) – circuirt breaker out there is all good, too.

Up to the attic! Well, not quite yet. It's early. Hopefully, it isn't too ugly up there. Maybe it's just a blown fuse.

I have the homeowner's insurance, so it won't be costly. But these fuckers sometimes take WEEKS to get out here.

I'm typing this with frozen hands. I'm about to get in the shower and get some heat. Then I'll go up in the roof to see what's up.

I have a feeling that today I'm sitting next to the fireplace a lot and taking frequent short showers. Those are our two sources of heat right now, and let me tell you — they won't measure up to a nice hot-burnin' furnace!

Peace.
