Yesterday, I wrote about my broken furnace.

I have a happy update!

You see, it seems my furnace is part of a union. It needed a break. Rather than ask me (because it knew I would say no), it just stopped working.

Later yesterday, it started working again, and has worked (seemingly) fine ever since.

Backstory…

First, I turned OFF the circuit breaker for the furnace.

Then, I crawled up in the attic. It was COLD! My fingers hurt during and afterwards.

Here's what I saw: NOTHING. Well, almost. I'll get to that…

No circuit breakers up top. Just an “On/Off” switch. It was On. Check.

Took off both panels I could get to and that I've seen the HVAC techs open up. No breakers or fuses I could see.

No water in the pan. Water sensor device wasn't tripped. In fact, it may not even work. We'll get to that some other day (famous last words).

What I did see was a slight bead of water under the blower. I wiped away what I could. I wasn't going to open that up–furthermore, I didn't see how I could.

I'll wait until the heating repair company comes by.

So downstairs I went. I warmed up my fingers. It seemed to take more than 10 minutes. Nose running, I sat by the fireplace. Mind you — the only two sources of heat we had at this time were the fireplaces (one upstairs, one downstairs) and two space heaters.

The house did warm up and never really got too cold. I think when I got up and noticed something was amiss with the heater it was 57 degrees in the house. Not great. But certainly not terrible.

However, it would only get worse if we didn't take action.

I left the circuit breaker off nearly all day yesterday. Around 4pm, I decided to turn it back on, “just to see.”

And heat began blowing out of the vents soon thereafter.

I thought, I need to cancel my service call. Or do I?

Maybe they should come out anyway and check it all out. Give it a clean bill of health. Or fix whatever's broken.

So here we are, the next day, and things are still working. House is warm. Heater is on, and it's still 15 fucking degrees outside.

The great news is this is supposed to be the last day of super frigid weather. Tomorrow, we warm up into lows in the 20s.
